Arsenal will take disciplinary action against Laurent Koscielny after the club captain refused to join the first-team squad on their pre-season tour of the United States.

Koscielny is desperate to return to France this summer and is trying to force Arsenal into agreeing to let him leave for free, despite having one year remaining on his contract.

Arsenal are not willing to allow Koscielny to move without receiving a transfer fee and have shown their fury by publicly condemning the 33-year-old for breaching the club’s “clear instructions”.

Bordeaux, Lyon and Rennes are all believed to be interested in Koscielny, who is requesting that his contract is cancelled after nine years in north London.

The Frenchman was at the club’s London Colney training base yesterday when he made it clear he would not be joining the US tour. Koscielny’s representatives have been in discussions with senior figures at the Emirates for weeks, with the situation reaching an impasse as Arsenal refused to bow to the defender’s demands.

The club’s finances are stretched following their failure to qualify for the Champions League and any funds they can generate through the sale of Koscielny would be added to this summer’s transfer budget. They are simply not in a position to allow assets to walk away from their contracts.
